Becton & Silverdale Post-16 Specialist Hub
Becton Special School and Silverdale School work in partnership, delivering a post-16 specialist hub at Silverdale School. Our inaugural cohort at the hub start in September 2024.
Post 16 at Silverdale
All students at the Becton & Silverdale will have an individual study programme. Students access one of two study pathways. Students access the pathway which best meets their needs. These are:
- Preparation for Further Education or Work
- Preparation for Apprenticeships, Supported Internships or other Work
Pathway 1 - Preparation for Further Education or Work
- 3x Level 3 Qualifications in line with student’s career choice.
- 1-3 x Interventions per week in line with student's needs as outlined in the student's Education, Health and Care Plan.
- Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in line with student’s career choice.
- Equivalent of 1 day per week work experience in line with student’s career choice or to support pupils holistic needs.
*English and Maths offered to all students who have not yet achieved grade 4 GCSE (or equivalent).
Pathway 2 - Preparation for Apprenticeships, Supported Internships or other Work
- 1 or 2 x Level 3 Qualifications in line with student’s career choice.
- 1-3 x Interventions per week in line with student's needs as outlined in the student's Education, Health and Care Plan.
- Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in line with student’s career choice.
- Equivalent of 2 x 3 day per week work experience in line with student’s career choice or to support pupils holistic needs.
*English and Maths offered to all pupils who have not yet achieved grade 4 GCSE (or equivalent).

When to Apply
This is done through the Annual Review consultation process. Consultations must be received by 31 January. Please be aware that, if a consultation is received after the 31 January, we cannot guarantee that a student will receive places on the A Level course(s) of their choosing.
Entry Requirements
Students who meet the entry criteria of 5 subjects at grades 4 to 9, including English and Maths, and the individual subject entry requirements, as stipulated on Silverdale's course pages, will be offered a place at Silverdale Sixth Form.
Please note, students wishing to access Pathway 2, may be able to access a place with fewer than 5 subjects at grades 4 to 9, including English and Maths, providing that they meet the individual subject entry requirements, as stipulated on Silverdale's course pages
